In Re Pork Antitrust Litigation

This antitrust case involved allegations that the leading producers of pork products in the United States engaged in a years-long conspiracy to reduce the supply of pork and thereby elevate prices to supracompetitive levels. Cirque Analytics was retained on behalf of the class of direct purchasers to evaluate the impact of the alleged conspiracy, assist counsel in demonstrating common impact, and quantify damages.

Dr. Mangum’s team, led by Scott Bosworth and Maggie Herrington, was initially retained to assist counsel with a “pre-study” of the pork market to investigate the potential validity of allegations of anticompetitive conduct. The results of the pre-study were used to assist in preparing the class complaint. Once litigation commenced, the team then assisted counsel with extensive data production and management responsibilities, conducted market research, and utilized econometric and statistical modeling techniques to estimate overcharges. Dr. Mangum first testified regarding his opinions in support of class certification, and then, following the court’s grant of class certification, he testified again during the merits phase of the case regarding damages quantification.

The matter is currently scheduled for trial in mid-2025.
